Sunday will be the actual 12th anniversary of my beloved mother's death. These last few weeks I have felt as though I was warring for my life. The journey of walking in reverse I proclaimed in my last blog is nearing its end tonight. I can feel it. I thank God for it! With everything in me, I thank God tonight.
In honor of my mother, I offer this poem, a tribute to her light and to my solemn vow to live again:
Flight
I breathe in the moist air,
My lungs fill with the thickness of summertime.
I am bathing in the silver light of a moon,
So round and full,
Like the curves of my hips.
And God is moving upon the deep tonight.
My womb,
Once a barren wasteland of regret,
Is quickened by the light.
I come bearing joy,
From the weaving of a new life
And of destinies making space to unite.
The stillness of this night envelopes me,
I breathe out delight in heaping buckets full,
Meld into the sacred silence,
And the celebration song of every sound.
My bones are soaking in ecstasy,
Sweet Spirit,
You have given me over to flight.
